This is in no way disrespectful to those who have been negatively affected by the fires ravaging Southern California, but it’s past time we stopped allowing people to blame climate change for the fires. I’m not saying the fires never would have happened, but the severity of these fires wouldn’t be near what they are without the incompetence and general indifference of those in charge of decision-making in the state.

In his return the world of talk shows after taking a holiday break, host Steven Crowder was back on Wednesday with the premiere episode of 2025 of “Louder with Crowder.” One segment in particular caught my attention addressing the California fires, affectionately titled, “Gavin Newsom: What a Piece of Sh*t.”

In the segment, Crowder takes California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and his ilk to task for attempting to get away with their policy failures that increased the severity of the fires by chalking it up to climate change. Crowder, much like yours truly in my weekly episodes of Things That Need To Be Said, brought receipts showing just how bad California politicians have made the current situation.

As he noted multiple times during the segment, all the references Crowder used can be found on his website. In this specific segment alone, 21 sources were used.

One source of importance came from Newsweek, where the outlet wrote about how Newsom “slashed funding for wildlife and forest resilience by $101 million as part of a series of cutbacks” in the state’s 2024-25 budget signed into last June.

I’m not going to list all of the sources and subsequent points Crowder brought up and used because that would turn this article into a novel. But, I’m going to share one more with you.

Last August, Politico reported the following:

“Gov. Gavin Newsom is making moves to keep control of California’s water — and protect the state’s endangered species from a potential second Trump administration.”[…]

“The proposed split is a repeat of the state’s approach in 2019 when then-President Donald Trump approved endangered species rules for the federal side of the pumps that were slightly weaker in order to send more water to farmers and cities further south.”

So, just so Newsom could fly in the face of a second possible Trump administration, the governor endangered his state by saying that a worthless fish — like the smelt — needed to be protected, sacrificing a portion of the state’s access to life-saving water.

Crowder pointed out this and a whole lot more during the segment, which you can watch below (Rumble link here. Segment begins around 47:20):
